Climate Justice Bold School: Wrapping up Year One!

Last Fall, PeaceUp’s training team launched Climate Justice Bold School, a  program  to provide activists and organizers with the  training they need for this long struggle. Peace Up has provided a lot of training in the community, but it has been upon request or before actions — hence reactionary. We decided that we wanted to have a proactive, comprehensive training program, where we laid out in advance the skills we wanted to acquire ourselves and share with our communities.  We called it: ”A year of advancing radical agents of change.”

Like all good teaching and training, we learned as much from the process and the content as those who came to our trainings, and this co-created knowledge has deepened our analysis of climate justice and the issues before us.

JOIN US FOR THIS LAST SESSION of the YEAR!

Together, we have learned that Climate justice requires a focus on the root causes of climate change and making the systemic changes that are therefore required, a commitment to address the disproportionate burden of the climate crisis on the poor and marginalized, and a demand for participatory democracy in changing these systems.

Achieving climate justice will require dismantling the fossil fuel corporate power structure as well as a commitment to reparations and thus a fair distribution of the world’s wealth.

To truly win, land and justice defenders must recognize overlapping systems of oppression within this capitalist culture, and take strategic cues from the communities most impacted by colonization, militarism, and poverty.

As 2013 comes to an end, Bold School is wrapping up. We will have one more training, aptly titled “climate justice.” It will be a day-long training like the others.

The agenda will include:

1.       A current update on the latest climate science, so we know what is happening, what we are facing, and how to talk about it.

2.       A “Climate Justice: Connect the Dots” segment, which lays out the connections between the climate crisis and climate chaos with the overlapping structural systems of capitalism/colonialism/imperialism as well as racism, patriarchy and class oppression.

3.       A presentation of the post-capitalist economic system that we need to replace our current global economy that is destroying our planet and all living beings on it.
