Ashley Sanders is a Salt Lake-based activist fighting for democracy and an end to corporate rule. She first got involved in activism organizing an alternative graduation when her college invited Dick Cheney to speak at their official ceremony, and hasn’t looked back since. She has worked as the youth spokesperson for Ralph Nader’s 2008 presidential campaign, organizing people to fight corporations in their communities. She has also organized extensively for Democracy Unlimited of Humboldt County, California, a collective committed to community sovereignty, bioregional democracy and alternatives to corporate control and capitalism. While there, she helped to launch the Campaign to Legalize Democracy/Move to Amend, a national grassroots campaign to amend the Constitution to abolish corporate constitutional rights and to organize local communities to declare independence from corporate rule. She is now working to organize Salt Lake to support this national amendment and to wage a people’s battle against major corporate polluters. Ashley also works on democratic community revitalization, feminist empowerment and political street theater. She is currently working on a play and book.

Hi, Ashley. I live in Tucson and understand you are coming here to speak. Few of us understand that political parties are smokescreens to give us a focus to hate and cheer, whilst the rich keep on doing what they have done for thousands of years; enslave the rest of us. It’s an old story, they used to use religion and royalty to control the masses, now we have corporations and political parties.
I would love to start a dialogue with you on how we change human nature, i.e. the desire for wealth and power in our society on a worldwide basis. If I MUST be labeled, I’m a Green Party kind of guy, because if we don’t have clean air, food and water, little else matters. We CAN feed the planet and cure societal woes, the rich choose not to. i.e. folks like the Koch brothers.
I am sincere on effecting change, I just don’t see how you or I or anyone can re-engineer human genetic drives without a drastic change, like getting rid of money or something similar to put people’s basic needs at the top instead of corporate profits.
How do we do something like change the constitution, when the rich running the show have absolutely no motive to do so?
Please enlighten me via email, if you have the time.
Thanks and good on you for caring,
Lew
I met Ashley at the Phoenix barnstorming event. I learned a tremendous amount in a very short time.
Lew, if you can make it to the Tucson event on Sunday, do it. Hear her out, THEN ask questions.
Ashley’s understanding of the issues and of the history of corporations and their influence on public policy and lawmaking is very enlightening.
Hi Ashley. I read somewhere that you are the pilot of the “Amend-O-Matic” money-stamping machine. If you are, I’d like to discuss it with you — Richard Anthony http://www.moneygraffit.com
correction: Richard Anthony http://www.moneygraffiti.com — Please let’s talk!;)
Ashley,
You may or may not know me but back in the day I knew you from your BYU days. I never went to BYU but I went to your house where you had your poem readings.
Now I am sure you hear this all the time but allot of what you talk about/articulate is eerily familiar to me. It would seem like you have ventured through some crazy terrain that I have yet to step foot in. I guess I am delaying the inevitable. At any rate I guess I am like everyone else in that you tend to seek people that have similar sentiments/sensibilities. I know this is all rather vague but if you would give a holler I would appreciate it.
I am always interested in meeting people and getting to know their plights/joys. You can see my picture on my site just so you know who I am.
Your call.
Take it easy.

Ashley, I was talking with Ryan Pleune about an organization I’m starting called the Institute of Awesomeness. He suggested talking to you because- 1- I’m in the process of accrediting a course called Advanced Democratic Citizenship, and 2- I’m looking for folks more qualified than myself (from an College Institution Standpoint) to speak about certain things like NVDA or what working in the political sphere is actually like. I’d love to collaborate with PeaceUp on this course, but again from a “credibility” side of things, he thought that you might be the person to start the conversation with. Down the road (starting in 2013) the Institute will want to pay folks to come down to Montrose, CO to teach weeklong or weekend portions of the ADC course.
Anyway- you have my email now- Let’s talk.
