Press Conference for Tim’s Transfer & Appeal

On March 9th, Tim DeChristopher was summarily moved into isolated confinement at FCI Herlong’s “Special Housing Unit.” The lieutenant moving Tim informed him this was because an unidentified congressman had called from Washington DC, complaining of an email that Tim had sent to a friend.

In response, Peaceful Uprising made a national call to action, prompting a massive wave of calls to FCI Herlong, the Bureau of Prisons central office, and the congresspersons sitting on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. To our collective joy, the public pressure worked and Tim was moved back to the minimum security camp in less than 24 hours! We share our sincerest gratitude to ALL of you — the thousands of supporters who responded to our call to action and the media for such timely and wide-spread coverage. YOUR overwhelming outpouring of support truly made a difference.

But we are still committed to investigating the important questions which still remain: Why was Congress involved in moving Tim into isolated confinement, and who ordered the investigation? Martin Luther King said, “An injustice to one is an injustice to all”, and this abuse of power must be exposed in it’s entirety if we are to safeguard our own personal liberties.

Watch the videos below for more details and inspiration from Tim’s minister Tom Goldsmith, his lawyer Pat Shea, and from the beloved community of supporters in Salt Lake City.
