Peaceful Uprising is a nonprofit collective committed to action to combat the climate crisis and build a just, healthy world.
We are committed to climate justice and collective liberation.
We seek to inspire citizens to recognize themselves as agents of change, and to build communities that empower and enable each of us to take effective, necessary nonviolent action.
We want a just and healthy world.
We recognize that a revolutionary departure from the status quo is required. A greener, cleaner version of the existing world– whose core values of greed and hyper-individualism are the core of the crisis we combat– will not suffice.
We want immediate, dramatic political and social change. We recognize that this degree of transformation must originate within each of us.
I watched Tim on the Bill Moyers show. What he and your organization are doing is very important not only as a environmental movement but as a proactive means of effectuating the change necessary not just for social and evironmental justice but for the very survival of our species. Keep up the good work.
Saw Tim DeChristopher on “Moyers and Company” last night on PBS–most impressive. Very courageous. So funny, bidding up all those land parcels. Hurray for such a wonderful human being! Follower of Emerson? Just wondering, as you are going to Harvard to become a Unitarian minister and you love the natural world, just as Emerson was and did. Thank God for people like Bill Moyers! He keeps us informed on so many important issues. Long may he live, and I wish someone would nominate HIM for a Nobel prize!
Reading about Solutions magazine, yes but, where do you get your paper from? Sustainable forests, or are you growing your own? Just wondering. Thank you.
I love what you are doing, but wonder about the peacefulness of a raised fist. Yes, anger has its place, and if used to foment change can be worthwhile (à la Martin Luther King, Jr. who funneled his anger to foster the change needed), however, a raised fist represents violence.
I wish you had another logo that fit better your stated goal of nonviolent protest.
Thanks for all you do to help our world.
I believe the fist represents not anger, but determination and perseverance in not backing down, maintaining one’s spirit and dignity and to pursue his vision in the face of corruption, propaganda and hampering barriers of government control. An uprising fist also represents a strive for victory, reached by passion and personal drive – and that is what I believe it means here.
I believe the fist is derived directly from one of the most powerful acts of righteous defiance in support of civil rights struggles everywhere – when John Carlos and Tommie Smith raised their fists on the medal awards podium during the 1968 Olympics. Must read the book “The John Carlos Story” (written with Dave Zarin) for the whole story of this selfless action that destroyed a career but continues to teach the lesson of shared responsibility.
I would not worry about the raised fist. I tend to see it as a grasp … grasping our future.
(Great to know Tim is free! – but then his spirit was always free.)
Hi Christina~
Since you have made the comment of not liking the fist logo ~
why don’t you come up with one that you think fits the analogy of
1 finger becoming many fingers connected to the hand and WE as
the hand are not going to give up…..then submit it to the group.
I’ll bet they will take a look at it….instead of being critical~ be pro-
active and suggest another one~
Best to you,
Marilyn
Tim, Please get in touch. Allan and I are coming to Salt Lake on December 15th and would like to see you. Thank you for all you are doing. Laurie Williams
Tim,
I am so proud of what you are doing. I wish I had known sooner and could have lent my support. I have started to spread the word around to my sphere of people here in NYC. I am sure you’ll receive many more kudos and more support. Continue to do what you are doing, it’s necessary! If we don’t take charge of how we treat our world we’ll lose it!
