WHOAREWE?
Peaceful Uprising is a nonprofit collective committed to action to combat the climate crisis and build a just, healthy world.
We seek to inspire citizens to recognize themselves as agents of change, and to build communities that empower and enable each of us to take effective, necessary nonviolent action.
WHATDOWEWANT?
We want a just and healthy world.
We recognize that a revolutionary departure from the status quo is required. A greener, cleaner version of the existing world– whose core values of greed and hyper-individualism are the core of the crisis we combat– will not suffice.
We want immediate, dramatic political and social change. We recognize that this degree of transformation must originate within each of us.

During the past 40 years I’ve started 18 community organizations, to confront bad stuff and to build good stuff. Lessons learned are in my new book “How to Take Power.” The title is blunt, but this is a manual for asserting and accepting power collectively, using it nonviolently to move society towards ecology and social justice. Beyond protest, to responsibly managing the better world that is happening.
I love what you are doing, but wonder about the peacefulness of a raised fist. Yes, anger has its place, and if used to foment change can be worthwhile (à la Martin Luther King, Jr. who funneled his anger to foster the change needed), however, a raised fist represents violence.
I wish you had another logo that fit better your stated goal of nonviolent protest.
Thanks for all you do to help our world.
I believe the fist represents not anger, but determination and perseverance in not backing down, maintaining one’s spirit and dignity and to pursue his vision in the face of corruption, propaganda and hampering barriers of government control. An uprising fist also represents a strive for victory, reached by passion and personal drive – and that is what I believe it means here.
I believe the fist is derived directly from one of the most powerful acts of righteous defiance in support of civil rights struggles everywhere – when John Carlos and Tommie Smith raised their fists on the medal awards podium during the 1968 Olympics. Must read the book “The John Carlos Story” (written with Dave Zarin) for the whole story of this selfless action that destroyed a career but continues to teach the lesson of shared responsibility.
I would not worry about the raised fist. I tend to see it as a grasp … grasping our future.
(Great to know Tim is free! – but then his spirit was always free.)
Great, another non-profit protest group wasting everyone’s time and money. Wanna change the world? Write a book. Make money and contribute intellectually to an issue. Did you write a book and it didn’t work? Well then your book sucks. Nothing more annoying than a bunch of pseudo intellectuals holding signs convinced they are changing the world by supporting an issue they probably know little about.
Nothing against your issue, nothing against you. Definitely something against “uprising”.
/my opinion
Dear Trolly,
Your narrow-minded approach to disseminating information and venues of change is why the ‘sheeple’ of this country do nothing but bitch against anything that has substance. Of course, recognizing substance or meaning beyond form requires an ability to perceive that there’s more than one path to ‘anywhere’, and, more importantly, to think metaphorically and manifest ideas through action…
So far, this response is pseudo-intellectual (?) and is charged with strongly opinionated un-pcistic and/or non-pacifistic remarks.
Alternative: Dear Trolly, thank you for your contributing comment. We hope, in time, you will come to realize that all peaceful methods for ‘getting out the word’ have some legitimacy. And while we agree with your sage advice, we are finding success and positive results with our organization and its function in both the local and world net communities.
Peace be with you,
Dyk
There’s one problem with the second approach that misses the mark, no matter how ‘civil’ it may sound. But then, that’s where pcism fails.
Thank God that some of us have the courage to speak out, rise up, and move forward to improve this planet. If you are afraid of what other people might think of you, or shy away from being “politically incorrect”, then continue to read your books. But don’t forget to read the news too, because we’ll probably be a part of it as we share our information with the rest of the world. Have a great night. Peace!
Sounds like you should run for ‘Congress’.
DId you write a book yet ? Where is it – how do you educate others ? If you have a great strategy please let me know. If you are one to actually take initiative for change other than judging others with condescending comments, contact me. We can always use good advice, that works.
Come on guys, the OP’s name says it all. They are just a troll trying to get someone’s goat, don’t fall for it.
Tim, Please get in touch. Allan and I are coming to Salt Lake on December 15th and would like to see you. Thank you for all you are doing. Laurie Williams
To stop Global Warming [GW] we MUST IMMEDIATELY convert ALL coal fired power plants to nuclear. If we don’t agriculture/civilization will collapse circa 2051. The Senate has failed.
Let’s try it from the other end. Coal contains uranium, thorium and all of the decay products of uranium and thorium. A 1000 megawatt coal fired power plant puts out at least 4 tons of uranium per year.
Coal ash is radioactive waste under the joint jurisdiction of 3 agencies: EPA, NRC and RCRA. EPA ruled in 1984 that none of that uranium or any other radiological species in coal poses a significant hazard.
You have to sue them to get that ruling reversed. Once it is reversed, coal is illegal, or at least they have to separate out the uranium and thorium. They could use the coal ash as ore for the contained minerals, probably at a profit, but that would involve admitting that coal contains those minerals. The publicity will cause a great deal of trouble for the coal industry while the litigation is going on.
We need to stop coal fired power plants because GW under BAU will cause agriculture and civilization to collapse in 2051.
No place for the attachments. I need an email address for .peacefuluprising.org so that I can send the documantation.
Drilling for natural gas in the Marsellus Shale region of the US (I live in PA) is causing as much pollution and is ruining our natural water supplies. Gas drilling is taking place in our state forests and agricultural areas. The toxic brine water left from it are killing the farm animals and poisoning the crops. Just do a search on “hydrofracking” and read about the horrifying effects from it. All in the name of GREED, not need. The oil companies are no better. Our oceans and sealife are dying a slow death. This planet will not be liveable for our future generations if we don’t act. Now.
Tim,
I am so proud of what you are doing. I wish I had known sooner and could have lent my support. I have started to spread the word around to my sphere of people here in NYC. I am sure you’ll receive many more kudos and more support. Continue to do what you are doing, it’s necessary! If we don’t take charge of how we treat our world we’ll lose it!

Solutions
For a Sustainable and Desirable Future
I am writing on behalf of Robert Costanza, Paul Hawken, David Orr, and John Todd to ask for your support in spreading the word about a special issue of The Solutions Journal—a new online and print journal. Solutions is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) publication that showcases ideas for solving the world’s environmental, social, and economic problems. With the involvement of our world-class editorial board, including recent Nobel Prize winner Elinor Ostrom, Gus Speth, Bill McKibben, David Suzuki, and Ray Anderson, the journal brings cutting edge ideas from academics and professionals in the field to an audience of policy makers, business leaders, and engaged members of the public.
This special issue, guest edited by Middlebury College’s Jon Isham—will be mailed to print subscribers worldwide in August. The issue focuses on a whole-systems perspective of how to reduce carbon in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million. This daunting challenge will require unprecedented societal and technological innovation, which is where Solutions comes in. Stories will revolve around 350 but include topics such as the smart grid, ecosystem services, the civil rights movement, democracy in China, geoengineering, and much more. We have a suite of international experts discussing implemented and theoretical solutions; including Bill McKibben and all the 350.org organizers, Peter Fox-Penner, Jon Isham, Frank Ackerman, Mindy Lubber, Aimee Christensen, and many more.
We are asking for your organization’s support in promoting this special edition to your networks. In exchange for you sending out email blasts to your networks and posting the Solutions link on your website, we will post your link on our website and feature you as a partner in the print issue and online. Again, as a nonprofit we rely on your support. We currently distribute Solutions’ print version to roughly 15,000 people worldwide. With your help, we hope to reach more readers than ever before.
We would also like to invite your association members to contribute their articles and ideas. We are always looking to feature new voices and solutions in our print and online editions of Solutions. Please review our author guidelines at http://www.thesolutionsjournal.com/authorguidelines.
Solutions is proud of the involvement and support from the growing online community on our interactive website. Live video feeds, articles, and links to related material and supporters will be provided at http://www.thesolutionsjournal.org, adding a collaborative edge to addressing the issues that face our global society. Please contact me directly if you can help us spread the word.
