Future Generations Show Up to Trial, to Study “Revolution Up Close”

After studying current events surrounding the revolutions in the Middle East and Wisconsin’s Labor uprisings, two busloads of fifth-grade elementary students, slated to see a production of A Tale of Two Cities at a local playhouse, arrived at the Salt Lake courthouse to observe the ongoing trial of Tim DeChristopher, which just entered its second day.

After seeing news coverage of over 11 hours of peaceful demonstrations yesterday around DeChristopher’s trial, the students’ bus driver was inspired to take a spur of the moment field trip to see “peaceful revolution in action” at the Salt Lake federal courthouse.

The students spilled onto the steps of the courthouse this morning, where just yesterday hundreds of climate activists from all around the country stood in solidarity and sang for the entire first day of the DeChristopher’s trial.

Today, most of DeChristopher’s supporters are monitoring the in-court developments, relating the trial’s opening arguments to supporters around the nation. A handful of followers are outside to provide space for in-court observers to digest,  discuss, and communicate developments.
