Tim was moved back to the MINIMUM SECURITY CAMP — late on the night of Wed March 28th, after FCI Herlong, the BOP office in Washington, DC and members of Congress received thousands of phone calls… from YOU!
Thank you for the overwhelming outpouring of support and for such effective public pressure.Peaceful Uprising will not stop investigating this situation because the most important questions remain unanswered: Why was Congress involved in moving Tim into isolated confinement, and who ordered the investigation? Martin Luther King said, “An injustice to one is an injustice to all”, and this abuse of power must be exposed in it’s entirety if we are to safeguard our own personal liberties.
In response to Tim being safely returned to the Minimum Security Camp at FCI, Herlong we are asking that no more calls are made to FCI Herlong or the BOP. Please continue to call the members of congress listed below to ask for transparency on
1) Who called for the investigation on Tim?
2) Why did Congress have a hand in moving Tim into isolated confinement?
“Tim DeChristopher inmate #16156-081 be immediately removed from the Special Housing Unit (SHU) and placed back in the Minimum Security Camp at FCI Herlong.”
If you’d like to say more, here are a few key talking points we suggest:
- Keeping inmates in isolated confinement for an indefinite amount of time awaiting a hearing is not humane and is not acceptable.
- *FOR CONGRESSIONAL MEMBERS* If they are your congressperson, tell them about the situation, [read here] and ask them if they know who ordered the transfer, and that you’d like them to take a look into it and get back to you promptly. Ask them why Congress is taking such an interest in the emails of one inmate. Tell them that Tim is a nonviolent offender who was wrongly charged and convicted to begin with, and was placed in a minimum security camp because he posed no threat to anyone. If you have time, mention that an oil and gas company owned by William Koch was recently found to have conspired to defeat a BLM oil and gas lease auction, but was merely fined, while Tim sits in isolated confinement after being charged with two felonies. If you call Jason Chaffetz, ask him to launch an investigation in his oversight committee.
** Please be respectful and polite when making phone calls. Outrage is appropriate, but remember that we are dealing with other human beings.

The USA is becoming it’s (formerly) worst enemy. The USA is becoming the USSR. If the downward slide of the USA continues at it’s current rate, there will be a day, when American’s wish they were in the USSR. In a way, the collapse of the USSR was bad. They were said to be horrible, and said to be abusing their citizens. At least then there was a monster the USA could strive to avoid beming. Now, with THAT, monster gone, the USA doesn’t strive to avoid becoming that monster, the USA is striving to prove the USSR was a horrible monster, by itself, become a bigger, more viscious monster.
I called Rep. Dan Lungren’s office on Wed. They said they had heard nothing of the action taken by Herlong, but would “look into the matter.” My husband called Herlong and left a message also. Public out-cry does get results. I would like to see an on-line petition addressing Tim’s issues of unjust confinement. How is it possible for a person in Congress to request/demand a change of treatment of one already serving a sentence?
P.S. to yesterday’s post. I called BOP, the California Fed. Cor. Inst.(Frelong or Irelong or whatever its name), and the Pa. Congressman (Marino). My message was polite. I told them to take him out of SHU, return him to general population, and that he doesn’t belong in any prison because he isn’t a criminal, he is a national hero. Comrade B (aka S.A. X-127).
Why doesn’t someone from peacefuluprising.org create an online petition? I think you’d get a lot more people to sign on than by asking them to call.

This man and this cause should receive TOP HEADLINE attention. Where is the press? A great campaign issue: DO AWAY WITH TORTURE IN THE UNITED STATES. It is an international crime and yet very much practiced here. In some jails a prisoner is placed in a “hole”—a very cold and dark cell with no clothing other than underwear and no cover. That is torture and anyone who does not believe it, should have to spend time there.
i have called a few congressional offices and have been told that Tim’s congressional representative in utah is Jim Matheson , 2nd congressional district. His number in D.C. is 202-225-3011……keep calling.
I called Rep. Matheson’s office and the fellow who answered said he just saw that Tim had been moved back to minimum security. I said that was good but I believe this is political imprisonment because the law under which he is being held is not being evenly applied: he has no big oil company standing beside him. The oil executives have never been held imprisoned. This especially renders this to be political imprisonment.
Thanks for that number. I just called and was told that he has just been taken back to minimum security. When enough people get involved, good things can happen.

Called Herlong, finally made my way to someone’s answering machine, left message. This is so disgraceful.
Called FCI Herlong. Spoke with a courteous woman who then transferred me to Eloisa DeBruler, who didn’t answer. I left her a voicemail expressing my deep concern about Tim and stated that he should be released immediately. This is just unreal! Political scapegoat much?
Tim’s action is truly one of the most creative actions against the Great Beast since the Catonsville Nine napalmed draft cards in 1967. I just called Congressmen Chaffetz and Bishop. I told them I am running for House District 46 in Utah as a Republican, and that I felt our basic freedoms are challenged by this case whether or not they agreed with Tim’s political idealism. He is in prison while people who have committed real crimes of violence and taking from people, get off. This comes too soon after Obama signed a law that the government can hold anybody indefinitely without charges. People can break down mentally in harsh prison conditions, and am worried that he will be pressed too severely. He is a young man with no criminal history before bidding at the auction. I doubt he understood it was a crime.
I was asked by Bishop’s office where this was coming from. They had seen nothing in the local news about it. I told the woman it is on the internet. Press releases are in order immediately.
Our Constitutional freedoms are being eroded. Punishments should fit crimes.
I spoke with two different secretaries that assured me they would pass along my message. Two phone calls doesn’t seem adequate. I don’t feel heard, not sure why he is in prison anyway, they’ve got the wrong guy! (s)
I called FCI Herlong – transferred to Public Information who said they were not able to give out information as to reasons for his transfer. She said she could understand that people are upset but she couldn’t comment on why he was transferred, except that it may have been infraction or other reasons.
Just made some calls. Got the same response most of us got but kept them busy for a while with questions, etc. Who is Tim’s congress person? If he/she’s got a semblance of humanity maybe they can help.

I was advised by the Public Relation Officer that they do not have isolation, that inmates are housed with another inmate. I asked about how Congress would have influence over BOP, and she stated they do not. she stated that anyone can call and put in a complaint, remark, etc. Not really clear and what this Special Housing Unit is, but advised that, in general, inmates are moved for complaints and/or investigations???? She indicated that she received several calls today and understood that we were concerned for him.

“Special Housing Units (SHUs) are housing units in Bureau institutions where
inmates are SECURELY SEPARATED from the general inmate population, and may be housed either alone or with other inmates.”
I would like to see this “anonymous” Congressman exposed! We used to have a justice system where one man’s sick, evil vitriol, could not cause this uncalled for action against a man who is already “peacefully” serving unwaranted time in prison, because of others like the Congressman!
I just called the FCI Herlong Facility. I was told by the gentleman who answered that he could give me no details about the status of a prisoner. I then asked if I could speak with Warden Ives and was told he was no longer with the facility. He asked if I would like to speak with their Public Information Officer. I said absolutely. I was then transferred and went to Eloisa DeBruler message service. I left a message expressing my “deep concern” about the status of Tim and that I wanted a return call giving me an update and an explanation of why he was transferred to the Special Housing Unit. Perhaps if they receive an overwhelming number of calls like this it could make a difference.

Would the freedom of information act allow one to discover which member of congress gave the order and what their “official” reasoning was?
I called the institutions and they were definitely getting hit with a lot of calls, but very friendly and understanding about expressing my concern.

As those before have noted, Herlong isn’t answering their phones (inmates taken over?).
I called Gohmert (my Congressman – more’s the pity) & they were aware but had nothing to offer other than to suggest I call Tim’s Congressperson. I called Sensenbrenner’s office and they too had heard about it but I guess assholes hire assholes so talking to his rep produced nothing tangible. I had similar results at Chaffetz’ office
I looked up Congressman Rob Bishop (R-UT – 202-225-0453) whose office had not heard about Tim’s transfer to the SHU and seemed genuinely concerned about it and said they’d follow up.

Thank you all for your support and solidarity. From the calls we’ve been making, it sounds like all lines (Herlong, BOP in DC and Congress) are all being flooded with calls. If you can, keep trying! The best thing we can do is continue to flood offices with calls over the next week.

I’m so glad that so many are responding to this stupid action. I chatted with an aid to Rep. Chaffetz telling him of the injustice and he told me he’d pass my concerns on to the congressman. Same response most of us get.
This act is so outrageous that it needs an appropriate response. The cresendo has just begun. I’m with all who demand justice in the treatment of Tim. All the way to his release.

Tim DeChristopher is an American Hero. Tim has earned my utmost respect for defending Mother Earth in the dignified and intelligent way he did. If I could, I would award Tim a medal for his courage. However I cannot, so he has my blessings, and Irish blessings at that… Tim, you are in my prayers every day! Bless you!

I called the priority congressmen; Rep. Sensenbrenner’s office had already gotten calls, the others were unfamiliar with the case; Rep. Gohmert’s staff person was willing to pass along the information, Rep. Chaffetz’s staff member gave an ambiguous response until I mentioned that Mr. deChristopher is a Utah citizen (hope that is still true?), at which point he said that he would pass along the information to the congressman (he had been heading toward saying he would pass it along, got stronger when I mentioned a Utah citizen).
I stand with Tim – stop this OUTRAGE!

I did not call any of the Congressmen. I called the BOP Central Office and the lady at the other end was courteous and said she would make a note of it and get it passed on to the proper authorities.
